About Us

Who We Are

The Hong Kong Family Law Association (HKFLA) is a non-profit making association established in 1986 to provide an education and social platform for the Family Law community.

It was established at the instigation of the then, Attorney-General Michael Thomas together with a small group of lawyers and judges to improve and develop Family Law and practice in Hong Kong.

Since then, we have grown to over 200 professional members including solicitors, barristers, mediators, Judges, mental health professionals and financial experts.

Our Mission

The Association is established for education and social purposes. We hold regular talks, conferences and events, and recommend improvements to the family justice system in Hong Kong.

Our Goals

To promote the study of Family Law and practice in Hong Kong and all matters relevant to it and the improvement and development of Family Law and practice in Hong Kong.

To make representations to the Government or any other relevant authority relating to Family Law.

To conduct or carry out any research work on Family Law.

To organise and participate in seminars, meetings or other related group within Family Law.

To strengthen Family Law in Hong Kong by bringing together the professionals who are involved in it.

Law Reform

The reform of Family Law in Hong Kong is central to our work to help make the family justice system more efficient and fair. We provide our views and input to the government departments, the Legislative Council, the Law Reform Commission of Hong Kong, and others.
